As a Human Resources Intern is responsible for providing assistance with Human Resources functions and other administrative aspects of the area/branch office.  This position will provide administrative and project support to the human resources team in the following areas: employee recruiting/hiring and onboarding, employee relations, personnel records completion and compliance audits, background screening, Workers’ Compensation, unemployment claims, Affirmative Action planning, and leaves of absence. This role ensures compliance with corporate policies and applicable federal, state, and local laws.

Role Responsibility:

Specific Duties and Essential Functions

  • Assist in selection and placement process (e.g., prepare application packets, hire packets, schedule interviews and pre/post-employment training, enter data in the Human Resources Information System [HRIS])
  • Filing and maintenance of non-overhead personnel documents
  • Assist management with recruiting, selection, and placement processes
  • Other duties as needed to ensure smooth operations of administrative and human resources related matters
  • Maintain and present professional workspace and demeanor to internal and external customers; provide general information to employees per the discretion of supervisory/management personnel

The Ideal Candidate:

Education, Licenses and Certifications Required

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have completed at least two (2) semesters of college education
  • Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student attending an institution of higher learning in the U.S., or have graduated from a qualifying program within one (1) year of beginning the internship
  • Must have a declared major, minor, or concentration in one of more of the following: private security, criminal justice, or a field associated with human resources, personnel management, or business

Type and Length of Specific Experience Required

  • Must possess academic experience and course work in human resources or related field of study
  • Must have experience working in an office environment

  • Must be at least at least 19 years of age on or before the first day of the internship
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the United States
  • Subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law
  • Must be able to provide, upon job offer, a DD214 discharge document with discharge status indicated, if prior military

Physical Requirements and Environment

Environment:         Office; indoor with minimal to no exposure to extreme temperatures expected

Major activity:        Working on PC while sitting; telephone use

Physical efforts to carry out job duties:      Limited, to include some standing, bending, limited stretching, and reaching
