Scope of role

To provide a dedicated business unit management accounting, financial control and performance measurement service to budget holders and senior management.

To ensure the high quality provision of a range of suitable management information.

Key accountabillities 

Main duties and responsibilities 

Monthly reporting 

  • Preparation of key reporting statements, including:

a.   Profit and loss account;

b.   Balance sheet;

  • Reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis; ensuring an understanding of all movements;
  • Analytical review of financial performance;
  • To manage the monthly management accounts production and ensure they accurately reflect the financial position and performance of the business at that time; 
  • To compose and distribute analytical commentary on the results to the Ireland FD.


Financial management and control 

  • Maintain and develop internal controls, accounting systems and reporting processes for effective decision making;
  • To provide expertise in financial controls that meet the required business need.  To apply this expertise in the design, review, documentation and implementation of controls 
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to Senior Management.
  • To engender and promote financial awareness, targeting senior management and budget holders. 


Planning, budgeting and forecasting 

  • Plan and lead regular forecasting and budgeting processes, including cash flows; 
  • To ensure that pricing and costing processes are professional, repeatable and appropriate.
  • To educate and support budget holders in the compilation of their annual budgets, project budgets, regular forecasts, and inputs to the strategic model. 
  • Provide sound financial analysis to aid decision making. 


Operational Review 

  • To assist the Finance Director with the implementation of appropriate operational review processes and behaviours to drive the performance and profitability of the Business Unit;
  • Preparation and presentation of key financial data at Business Unit review meetings;
  • Working closely with senior management to review performance and implement Business Unit strategy, budgets and forecasts.


Management Responsibility 

  • To manage and form strong working relationships within the Business Unit (HR, BD Operations).
  • In-direct management of staff in UK finance shared service centre.
  • Direct management of 6 finance staff



  • Financial modelling and scenario analysis to aid decision making (including pricing); 
  • Special projects / ad-hoc requests and analysis.



Candidate Profile 

Educational Requirements/Qualifications

  • ACA / CIMA / ACCA fully qualified accountant, preferably with 1st time passes. 
  • Knowledge of all aspects of a finance function, including management and financial accounting, group reporting, statutory accounts and taxation.
  • Extensive knowledge of Excel. 



  • Demonstrable post qualification accounting experience;
  • Experience of project costing models;
  • Production of monthly management accounts (profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow), along with variance analysis and reporting;
  • Preparation of monthly trading reports analysing performance;
  • Analysis of statutory accounts; 
  • Demonstrable experience in creating financial strategies, modelling results and future financial scenarios. 
  • High levels of personal effectiveness, particularly in communication, organisation, and the ability to focus on achieving project deadlines, ensuring that milestones can be met.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication – articulate, confident and engaging with the ability to nurture and maintain successful working relationships with employees at all levels of the business and with external customers and suppliers.
  • Comfortable with working in a demanding environment.
  • Strong influencing skills, especially at Senior Management level.
  • Excellent organisation skills and the ability to manage conflicting and changing priorities.
