At Oakhill Secure Training Centre we look after young people aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The vulnerable young people in our care can be challenging with a wide range of social and emotional complex needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for young people to develop their life skills and address the behaviours that have led them into custody.


Oakhill Secure Training Centre works closely with the Youth Custody Services to ensure that its regimes and designs reflect best practice in residential care to prevent offending.


With experience of promoting diversity and equality within a fast paced and challenging Criminal Justice environment, you will provide effective management of the relevant functional department and activities in line with customer and contractual requirements.  Maximise purposeful activity for children in the care of Oakhill STC and develop,  and build relationships with external stakeholders to improve outcomes for children and staff at Oakhill STC.


Acting as a strategic lead for equality and diversity and promoting community inclusion you will drive a positive culture in line with the values of G4S.


Key Responsibilities

  • To act as the strategic lead for equality and diversity.

  • To promote the concept of community inclusion, ensuring that all equality and diversity standards are maintained at all times
  • Investigate and report on incidents and complaints related to discrimination, equality and inclusion ensuring that lessons learnt are acted upon.
  • Drive service excellence and implement innovative solutions
  • Manage contracts with external suppliers to ensure contract compliance and cost effective delivery of services
  • To deliver a fair, decent and challenging regime for children which maximises the opportunities for reducing risk and preventing re-offending
  • To ensure that all audits / assurance statements relevant to your functional area are achieved
  • To work collaboratively with other functional managers to ensure that the Centre delivers its contractual obligations.
  • Initiate and develop community links with external stakeholders and partners to improve the outcomes for children at Oakhill STC.
  • Liaise with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the provision of services
  • Manage and control the relevant function budget to meet financial parameters.
  • To act as Duty Director and to ensure that all incident reporting procedures are followed along with the management of incidents.
  • Ensure all audit /assurance statements relevant to the functional area are achieved.

The Ideal Candidate:

Essential Skills

  • Managerial experience of working in a Criminal Justice environment.
  • Experience of developing and implementing policy and strategy.
  • Knowledge of Equality Legislation, equal opportunities and human rights.
  • Willing and able to carry out Duty Director roles and responsibilities on a rostered basis.
  • External Stakeholder Engagement


Desirable Skills

  • Operational Delivery in a custodial environment.
  • Experience developing /delivering training
  • Experience of using data to improve outcomes for children.
  •  Improving diversity and inclusion in a custodial setting.
  • Experience of commercial contracts
