The Fair Enforcement Officer will conduct unarmed foot and/or vehicle patrol across rough, uneven or rocky surfaces, in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements; use a variety of computer based programs, compose reports, deter criminal activity and misconduct and perform other duties as specified in post orders.

Role Responsibility:

Specific Duties and Essential Functions

  • Perform security functions during transportation; check transit riders’ tickets, assist with directions, and provide general customer service
  • Watch for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards
  • Provide assistance to customers, employees and visitors in a courteous and professional manner
  • Make decisions in accordance with rules, regulations and policies 
  • Demonstrate mental alertness, remaining vigilant and active while on duty
  • Inform/Warn/Cite violators of rule infractions
  • Perform other operations and related functions as needed (e.g., maintain incident reports, and post orders)


The Ideal Candidate:

Education, Licenses and Certifications Required

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain and maintain, a current and valid Missouri and/or Illinois license requirements for a security officer
  • Must possess a current and valid state-issued driver’s license

Type and Length of Specific Experience Required

  • Must possess one or more of the following
    • Service in Military Occupational Specialty related to law enforcement, security (such as Military Police, Elite Military Forces, combat arms) or any support role in a Combat Zone
    • Graduate of a Certified Public Safety Academy (military or civilian) in law enforcement, adult corrections, or firefighter field
    • Bachelor’s degree in law enforcement or criminal justice related studies
    • A minimum of 8 or more years of active service in any military branch
    • Associates degree (or 60 credits) or higher in law enforcement or criminal justice with current or prior active military service
  • Must possess a minimum of two (2) years of work history showing customer service skills

  • Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately

  • Must be at least 21 years old or the minimum age required by the state, if higher
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the United States
  • Must have access to reliable transportation
  • Must be able to communicate with the general public in a face-to-face setting, by telephone and by two-way radio
  • Must possess proficiency with computers
  • Must be able to operate radio or telephone equipment
  • Must have the ability to read, interpret, and implement written instructions/Post Orders, understand and follow oral instructions, and assimilate specialized training
  • Must have demonstrated ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public
  • Must possess ability to clearly read, write and interpret reports
  • Must possess ability to observe behaviors and report details accurately
  • Must have demonstrated ability to be mentally alert and capable of making decisions in accordance with rules, regulations and policies
  • Must be capable of operating motor vehicles safely
  • Subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law
  • Must be able to provide, upon job offer, a DD214 discharge document with discharge status indicated, if prior military

Physical Requirements and Environment

Environment:         Indoor and outdoor; some work in extreme temperatures is expected

Major activity:        Walking, standing, stooping, sitting

Physical efforts to carry out job duties: Standing, bending, and frequent stretching, reaching, and walking
