Job Introduction:

The Director, Health, Safety and Environment’s (HSE) primary purpose is managing risk, advancing the company’s safety program, and promoting a culture of safety with the goal of eliminating avoidable harm. 

This position manages and coordinates an organization-wide risk and safety program for Healthcare market. The Director knows and monitors the areas of organizational risk and compliance as it relates to acute care patient safety and fosters a culture of safe practices to reduce error and improve outcomes, assesses compliance with G4S national safety goals and other safety initiatives, and implements policies/programs/education to maximize G4S Security Officer Safety. This position also emphasizes proactive harm prevention through development and implementation of programs, policies, and activities.

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of the G4S Healthcare market. It is expected that the HSD demonstrates behavior consistent with the values of G4S corporate safety. The HSD shall support G4S corporate strategic safety plans and goals and drive performance improvement.

Role Responsibility:

Specific Duties and Essential Functions

  • Make recommendations to Sales/Healthcare Contracting leadership for contract changes that will promote a safe environment for G4S officers based on current mechanism of injury trends
  • Oversee the management and use of event information to benchmark and track progress to zero avoidable harm for all G4S employees
  • Provide analysis and identifying trends from reports (e.g. event reports, monthly loss run reports, safety dashboards) to track progress of improvement strategies. Spread and sustain improvement
  • Present informative and actionable safety reports to appropriate G4S management to include high level presentations to G4S Corporate Leadership
  • Work with defense legal counsel to coordinate the investigation, processing, and defense of claims against G4S; records, collects, documents, maintains, and provides to defense attorneys any requested information and documents necessary to manage claims
  • Work with security on procedures to reduce the frequency and/or minimize the severity of property loss or assets
  • Manage and coordinate an organization-wide risk and safety program for Healthcare market
  • Monitor the areas of organizational risk and compliance as it relates to acute care patient safety
  • Foster a culture of safe practices to reduce error and improve outcomes
  • Support G4S corporate strategic safety plans and goals and drive performance improvement
  • Assess compliance with G4S national safety goals and other safety initiatives
  • Develop and implement policies/programs/education to maximize G4S Security Officer Safety
  • Emphasize proactive harm prevention through development and implementation of programs, policies, and activities
  • Support VP, HSE in the implementation of new policies and initiatives and advise on
  • overall safety concerns
  • Assist VP, HSE in developing the overall strategy of continuous improvement for G4S
  • Health, Safety & Environment standards
  • Work with company Risk Management departments and insurance carriers to investigate and report in detail incidents and personal injury incidents and monitor all related claims
     


The Ideal Candidate:

Education, Licenses and Certifications Required

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, HSE Management, Safety Engineering, or a Risk related field
  • Must possess one or more of the following safety certifications:
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
    • Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP)
    • Certified Hazard Control Manager (CHCM)
  • Must possess a current and valid driver’s license

Type and Length of Specific Experience Required

  • Must possess a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in healthcare or hospital safety that demonstrates a working knowledge of regulatory standards and associated laws related to safety and environment
  • Must have experience with Google and Microsoft platform programs

  • Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Must have the ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret regulations, standards and specifications, common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and other documents
  • Must possess excellent organizational, presentation, and communication skills
  • Subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law
  • Must be able to provide, upon job offer, a DD214 discharge document with discharge status indicated, if prior military

Physical Requirements and Environment

Environment:  Office and field environments; minimal exposure to extreme temperatures is expected

Major or special activity:  Working on PC while sitting; telephone use

Physical efforts to carry out job duties:  Limited, to include some: standing, bending, maneuvering up to 25 pounds, and limited stretching and reaching
