Role Responsibility:

Catering position at Kelling Hospital (NR25 6QA) on a two week rota. 15.75 hours per week.

Week 1 Mon, Thurs Fri 15.00 to 19.30

Week 2 Tue, Wed, Sat, Sun 15.00 to 19.30

Key Responsibilities

  • On arrival, to report for duty in full uniform for the normal work routines
  • Ensure all necessary equipment is collected before starting work
  • Work safely at all times giving due consideration to themselves and others
  • Must use the appropriate work equipment and PPE provided and report safety deficiencies to Site Supervisor
  • Carry out all related duties as may be allocated by the Supervisor
  • Check equipment for faults and notify the Site Supervisor
  • Report any maintenance required to the Site Supervisor
  • Ensure strict confidentiality concerning patients and their visitors
  • At the end of each shift, store all equipment used in the appropriate storage
  • Report any accident or theft immediately to the Site Supervisor
  • Attend both internal and external training courses as required
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by Management
  • Keep minor records as instructed by Site Supervisor
  • To ensure strict adherence to all policies and procedures in relation to food hygiene paying particular attention to personal hygiene requirements
  • Ensure that the Trust 's procedures and policies  are adhered to

Catering Duties

  • Cater for the daily preparation and service of all food, snacks and beverages
  • Ensure that all meals, snacks and beverages are in accordance with approved delivery schedules
  • Ensure meals are delivered during protected meal times
  • Observe the food hygiene and safety regulations ensuring a high standard of service is provided at all times
  • Prepare and regenerate meals in accordance with agreed procedure.
  • Ensure that food presentation, portion control, temperature and quality standards are adhered to
  • Ensure that patient meal trolleys contain appropriate meals, as requested
  • Carry out the preparation of snacks, salads and sandwiches to the required standards and any other preparation of food items required for functions
  • Undertake washing up both by hand and using the mechanical dishwasher
  • To provide the appropriate amount of crockery and cutlery in advance of service times
  • To receive goods deliveries in accordance with the correct procedure
  • To prepare and issue goods to wards at agreed levels
  • Report any mechanical maintenance faults to your Supervisor/Manager
  • Follow any necessary training programme as directed by the Catering/Facilities Manager
  • Record temperatures of refrigerators and maintain all temperature/food records
  • Dispose of all catering waste according to departmental policy which includes the operation of waste disposal units.

Cleaning Duties

  • To carry out all cleaning assigned, making full use of guidance and training given, using checklists provided
  • Managing cleaning schedule in the light of patient and Ward activities
  • Use all materials and consumables in accordance with laid down practices ensuring the economic use of resources
  • Check and observe cleaning to be carried out in accordance with schedule
  • Undertake manual and mechanical cleaning activities in accordance with the cleaning schedule
  • Comply with methods of cleaning required for areas
  • Ensure that all cleaning schedules are completed and checked on a daily basis, including
  • Microwaves
  • Refrigerators and freezers
  • Regeneration trolleys
  • To undertake the cleaning of walls, floors, surfaces and equipment within any service area of the Kitchen/Restaurant.
  • Collection, segregation and disposal of waste materials, replacement of liners, in accordance with policies
  • Provide emergency and ad hoc cleaning as required
  • Cleaning in close proximity to patients including tables and lockers
  • Ensure all equipment is cleaned and correctly stored after use
