About the role and team
Our Custody and Transport Officers are responsible for the safety, security, and humane custody of individuals in our care. We manage custodial operations across Justice Services in the Northern Territory, including the Local Law Courts and Prisoner Transport in Alice Springs, as well as other custodial locations across the NT. You will join an evolving team across growing operations, working under the guidance of our Custodial Supervisors and Operations Manager.
Your responsibilities will be to facilitate secure physical movement, supervision and care and logistical management of people in custodial settings. This varied role will see you achieve:
- Court Cell & Custody Management: You'll be responsible for court cell management, escorting people in custody to and from courtrooms, and managing the custody of people awaiting court appearances.
- Secure Prisoner Escort & Transportation: You'll be responsible for safely transporting people in custody to designated locations such as courts, medical appointments, hospitals, and custody centres.
*Future Operations may also include managing Secure Hospital Bedsits and Watchhouse Operations in Alice Springs.
This role also has a high focus on Documentation and Reporting. You will be preparing quality verbal and written reports relating to prisoner information, prisoner assessments, incidents, and transport logs - and ensuring documentation complies with legal requirements.
Remuneration & Roster
The role will require shift work, providing a variety of different shift patterns currently supporting a Monday to Friday roster.
You will be paid an hourly rate of $33.17 per hour + Super + Up to 6 weeks of Annual Leave.

We are looking for people who engage well with others, have families or engage in community groups, Experience working in people/customer facing roles, customer service and high teamwork environments are strongly encouraged to apply
People are central to our business, so the ability to communicate with others is a key requirement.
You'll be engaging directly with people in custody, so it's crucial that you're comfortable with working in a custodial environment, looking after all individuals in your care. It is essential that you:
- Hold a full and current Australian driver's licence,
- Are eligible to work full-time in Australia, with no restrictions
