Job Introduction:

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Head of Operations, responsible for all service delivery of both customer installations and after sales support for G4S Fire & Security Systems across the Republic of Ireland.

Role Responsibility:

The role is accountable for the achievement of revenue (currently €26m) and margin (currently €7m) targets simultaneously across Fire and Security, and as the budget holder ensuring departmental costs remain viable and within budget.

 

Key relationships include major contracts, working closely with the MD for Ireland and contributing as a key member of the senior management team, the position provides leadership and management of the operational team of 5 direct reports and their field-based installation and service teams of 85 total staff.

 

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Assist in the development of the Irish strategy and ensure operational goals and resources are aligned.
  • In conjunction with G4S Fire & Security’s Health & Safety Manager, ensure a safe and secure working environment at all times for G4S employees, subcontractors and those employees of our customer’s. Ensure all of our engineers are appropriately trained and possess the necessary accreditations.
  • Maintain and further promote customer retention and growth by cultivating high levels of motivation, commitment and performance by all team members.
  • Agree performance goals for team members and monitor performance on a continual basis, providing coaching and training as required. 
  • To achieve and improve on the Key Performance Indicators for the role e.g. Engineer efficiency, overtime and first-time fix rate.
  • Authorise and ensure all commercial aspects of our customer contracts are acceptable in terms of profitability and risk.
  • Authorise all quotes in terms of specifications and costs and ensure the business delivers to these in terms of profitability and deliverables by project.
  • To ensure a consistency of installation and service delivery across the Operational Regions are adopted.
  • Establish and maintain meaningful personal relationships with key customers.
  • Approve all sub-contractors employed by G4S and ensure they are performance/compliance monitored in order to maintain approval listing and deliver to standards required. Appraise all new sub-contractors via our in-house vendor selection process prior to acceptance/rejection of their application.
  • Prepare and collate detailed weekly and monthly reports in line with company standards and Managing Director’s requirements. Attendance and participation at G4S Fire & Security System’s Management Meetings as required by the Operations Director/Managing Director Ireland.
  • Act in professional manner at all times with complete integrity, compliance with UK legislation and G4S ethical values to maintain brand reputation.
  • Provided support and guidance to our sales team for any installation/service related matters that may arise concerning key new business opportunities.
  • Prepare, develop and present key presentations to knowledgeable audiences
  • By leadership develop a team of people who demonstrate pace and pride through high performance, working as a team to achieve business objectives
  • Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration across other departments to ensure the overall success of the business.
  • Ensure all expired warranties and any other new business opportunities are followed up on and maximised by the team.
  • Work with the sales team to ensure a sufficient supply of work comes in across all geographies, highlighting deficiencies and concerns where appropriate.
  • Foster a culture of service delivery and customer-first principles to promote retention and reorder.
  • Ensure a full complement of staff at all times being mindful of succession planning and the growing needs of the business both in terms of volume and products.  Identifying potential for development and continuously looking for new talent to bring into the business.
  • Work with the HR team and MD to manage the relationship with the union/(s), maintaining positive labour relations and negotiating changes to terms and conditions, annual pay awards etc.

 


The Ideal Candidate:

  • An engineering background, ideally having worked as an engineer/technical PM in the past, in order to understand the full engineering operation
  • Operations experience at a senior level within a semi-unionised operations environment delivering installation and service of Electronic Security Systems – Intruder Alarms, Access Control, CCTV and Integrated Security Management Systems.  
  • Exposure to the building/construction industry in order to understand the stakeholders. Experience of working on large building contracts in the past in the security/fire industry would be ideal.
  • A strong financial and commercial acumen with experience and the ability to manage budgets, forecast, understand overheads margin, manage payroll & more.
  • Impeccable integrity and reliability, confident, assertive and professional.
  • The ability to remain focused and driven under pressure.
  • Proven leadership qualities.
  • First class verbal and written communications skills as well as excellent presentation skills.
  • The ability to adapt to a widening product portfolio.
  • Given the management input required of the position, it is essential for the successful candidate willing to travel to various locations.
  • Current / valid driving licence.
  • 5 years checkable work history
