OPERATIONAL FUNCTIONAL HEAD – HMP BIRMINGHAM, Winson Green, B18 4AS     
 
40 Hours per week, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays; £40,000 - £47,000 per annum - there is currently a pay review pending

G4S Custodial & Detention Services (CDS) is the leading private provider of custodial services in the UK and manages five successful prisons, two immigration removal centres, one secure training centre and a number of community contracts in England and Wales. We provide progressive environments dedicated to reducing re-offending and enabling individuals to fulfil their potential back in their local community and from the IRCs achieving successful returns to their home countries.
 
HMP Birmingham is a Victorian local prison built in 1849 based in the Winson Green area and is a category ‘B’ prison providing approx.1,425 places for sentenced males adults. It is also a ‘holding’ prison that services the West Midlands Courts.
 
HMP Birmingham has a reputation for delivering a high level of performance and innovative projects.   We are now looking for a Functional Head to join the Senior Management Team at HMP Birmingham.  To succeed in this role, you will be a dynamic and engaging individual, who shares our ethics and values. You must deliver an exceptional service and can be flexible in working in diverse functions within the prison.  You will also need to have excellent communication skills and be able to motivate and empower staff to deliver outstanding results.  A proven leader, you will inspire your team and have the ability to win hearts and minds.
 
In this role, we expect you to create a positive and diverse working environment and lead on a number of critical areas:
 
Promote a positive regime focused on reducing re-offending
Developing individuals to maximise their potential
Promoting equality, decency and wellbeing within the Prison
Manage operational incidents and to be in charge of the prison as part of a scheduled roster at    evenings and weekends.
Liaising with external bodies, developing effective customer/client relationships
Building relationships within the community; have the ability to build rapport and influence key stakeholders and have a high degree of self-awareness.
