Job Introduction:

G4S Custodial Services Pty Ltd operates Port Phillip Prison on behalf of the Department of Justice Victoria. The 1100+ bed maximum security men's prison is located at Truganina. The function of G4S is to protect the public and manage the prison and deliver a range of services, programs and activities in an environment that encourages positive behaviour and attitudes leading to self-directed rehabilitation and a reduction in reoffending. 

We currently have a full time opportunity for a Clinician at Port Phillip Prison. 

Role Responsibility:

We have a number of opportunities for Clinicians at the prison including full time, part time and fixed term roles. 

Reporting into the Senior Clinician, just some of the duties at PPP include;

  • Conducting risk assessments
  • Provision of group programs targeting offending behaviour of serious violent offenders and general offenders 
  • Participation in planning and evaluation of therapeutic, behavioural and skills based programs
  • Screening, identification and intervention of potential mental health issues of prisoners 
  • Emergency mental health crises intervention
  • Provision of individual counselling and treatment to clients with complex needs
  • Assessments of coping and distress
  • Preparing psychological summaries and reports

The Ideal Candidate:

Working as part of a busy, productive and experienced team, ideally you would possess the following qualifications and experience;

  • Psychologist, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker with experience in a similar environment
  • For Psychologists, Full Registration with AHPRA
  • For Social Workers, Eligibility for Full Registration/Recognition with the Australian Association of Social Workers 
  • Previous experience in forensic psychology is an advantage but not essential 
  • Passion for correctional psychology and the ability to show initiative, creativity and responsibility in a challenging environment
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Possess high levels of resilience and motivation
  • Advanced time management skills
  • A proven ability to adapt to change, enthusiasm to develop new skills and expertise in order to deliver business objectives
