Sgt. Edward Spivie, Security Officer of the Year 2013
Originally from Brooklyn, Sgt. Edward Spivie has worked security industry since 1972 and has worked for G4S since 2004. Edward’s current assignment is to provide security services to one of the largest banks in the United States.
Edward was recognized as the G4S Security Officer of the Year 2012 because of his exceptional dedication to his fellow employees, our clients and G4S. While on vacation, Edward received a call from Account Manager Jim Newell, indicating that Edward’s colleague, Shift Supervisor Ronald Lacey, had not reported for his scheduled shift. Edward knew something was wrong because Ronald never missed a shift. Spivie and Newell met at Ronald Lacey’s apartment and found him lying unconscious on the floor. Lacey had suffered from a brain aneurism, and Spivie’s quick actions enabled Lacey to make it to the hospital for emergency treatment. Doctors at Albany Hospital were able to alleviate the immediate threat and Lacey was able to communicate with his family.
Not only did Edward save his co-worker’s life, he continued to go above and beyond for his team by cancelling his vacation to help cover Ronald’s shifts. Sadly, Shift Supervisor Ronald Lacey passed away months later due to complications; however, because Edward found him that day, Ronald was able to be with his family for a longer period of time.
Sgt. Edward Spivie is named G4S Security Officer of the Year for 2012 in recognition for his role in extending the life of his co-worker and his display of dedication, professionalism and integrity.
