Prior to joining the company in September 1996 as a Temporary Metering Clerk within the Utility Services business, Mark completed a Diploma in Computer Programming. Keen to get in to the world of work and demonstrate what he could do he was made permanent and took a secondment opportunity in IT on the Technical Help Desk where his role was to deal with technical computer queries from field and office based employees. In September 2001 an opportunity arose for a Help Desk Team Leader. This allowed Mark the opportunity to develop his managerial skills with the support from his Manager.
Mark was keen to pursue a career in IT and decided to broaden his skills within the business by moving in to a Support Analyst role. This opportunity allowed him to learn more about the business, workflow management and IT infrastructure and applications. Promotion in 2008 to Technical Service Support Manager followed as the business grew and diversified. Mark was keen to take on new challenges and during 2009 developed in to an Operations Manager role within this area, looking after Data Collection and Aggregation for one of the company’s major clients.
During 2009 and 2010 a number of positive changes within the business meant that Mark had the opportunity to step up into a senior role taking on the broad remit of Data Management across the Utility Services business. Mark is now Head of Data Management Services for the Utility Services business. He now leads a team of over 180 employees supporting major clients across the UK & Ireland on all aspects of Data Collection and Aggregation, Workflow Management and Operations Support.
Mark says: “Hard work, commitment and being prepared to take responsibility have opened many opportunities for me to grow and develop within G4S. The support and encouragement I have had from my managers has also helped me to confidently progress my career aspirations”
